‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Sonoya Mizuno Joins Netflix’s ‘Maniac’

Japanese British actress Sonoya Mizuno is joining Emma Stone and Jonah Hill as a series regular on Netflix’s “Maniac,” Deadline reported. The dark comedy series is being helmed by Cary Fukunaga and is based on a 2014 Norwegian series about two patients in a mental institution.

Details about Mizuno’s character in “Maniac” have not yet been released.

Viewers might recognize Mizuno from her breakout role as Kyoko, the silent female AI bot in Alex Garland’s Oscar-nominated “Ex Machina.” She will also be in Garland’s upcoming “Annihilation.”

Mizuno had a small role as Emma Stone’s roommate in “La La Land,” and recently wrapped up filming for Jon M. Chu’s “Crazy Rich Asians,” in which she plays Araminta Lee, a relative of the insanely rich Singaporean character played by Henry Golding.
