On Dec. 18, the K-pop world said goodbye to a long-beloved artist, Jonghyun of SHINee. In honor of his tremendous contributions to the genre and his open, honest approach to music making, we are listening to some of our favorite Jonghyun hits this week.
“Crazy (Guilty Pleasure)”
We always knew that Jonghyun could more than hold his own as a solo artist, and his first solo venture “Crazy” proved us right and then some. On top of his powerful, haunting vocals, Jonghyun held our attention with his allure as a performer.
“White T-Shirt”
In “She Is,” Jonghyun showed off a bit more of an artsy, experimental side of himself, but while we liked the quirky title track, we can’t help but love the happy-go-lucky playfulness of “White T-Shirt.”
“Hot Times”
We don’t claim to be vocal experts, but we also don’t believe we’re stepping out of line when we say that Jonghyun was one of K-pop’s pre-eminent vocalists, and no other song showcases the strength and versatility of his singing better than “Hot Times.”
“Please Don’t Go”
Speaking of powerhouse vocals, Jonghyun’s singing voice paired perfectly with that of his SHINee teammate Onew’s. “Please Don’t Go” was one of their most emotional collaborations.
“End of a Day”
Of all the songs Jonghyun was written and produced, none represent our feelings on his passing better than “End of a Day.” You did well, Jonghyun.
