During a live streamed conversation last week with Tom Bilyeu at The YouTube Space NY, Steve Aoki spoke at length about his new album “Neon Future III,” which dropped last week, as well as his new comic book series “Neon Future.” A live performance of “Be Somebody” with Kiiara followed.
The 17-track album includes collaborations with Blink-182, Bill Nye, BTS, Lady Antebellum and Daddy Yankee. “Be Somebody,” a collaboration with Nicky Romero and Kiiara, is a track about self-empowerment.
The comic series, which launched in October, follows a character named Kita Sovee, based on Aoki, who lives in a world, 30 years into the future, in which war looms.

“’Neon Future’ is my fascination, obsession with science and future tech, and where we’re going in technology,” Aoki said during the discussion. Pointing to Bilyeu, who heads Impact Theory Studios, the series’ publisher, Aoki said that they “bonded over the idea of looking toward the future in an optimistic way.”
