Everyone’s favorite half-demon, “Hellboy,” is back again doing what he does best: cracking heads and cracking jokes. But this time, things are a little different.
Perpetually caught between the supernatural and human world, Hellboy (David Harbour) is back and fighting an evil sorceress in this latest installment of the series. Daniel Dae Kim will play Major Ben Daimio, a former military officer working in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. In the trailer, Kim sports Daimio’s signature web of facial scars that serve as a reminder of the supernatural event that gave him the ability to transform into a jaguar-like creature.
The tone of this reboot seems much lighter than previous “Hellboy” films, with the demon making jokes about his appearance and superhuman strength in the trailer a la “Thor: Ragnarok.” The film’s set to hit theaters on April 19 next year.
The original live-action films were directed by Guillermo Del Toro and bore his trademark knack for balancing horror and elegance. The 2019 reboot is directed by Neil Marshall, who is perhaps best known for “Dog Soldiers” and for directing episodes of “Game of Thrones” and “Westworld.”
