Our days are getting shorter, nights longer and confusion is seeping into our closets. Do we bring the coats out from storage or hold on to the last stray bits of summer sun? Yellowing leaves and pumpkins have been spotted, and with them a more somber mood unravels as we buckle down for a change in scenery and sensibilities. October’s playlist says au revoir to one season and revs into the next.
1.“Nights Like This” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) – Kehlani
This song perfectly captures a restlessness we can all relate to when dealing with indecisive exes, and/or weather.
2. “Raise Well” – Luke Sital-Singh
Lose yourself in a midweek daydream as British singer-songwriter, Sital-Singh’s voice pours through the speakers. Simple yet beautifully written, “Raise Well” is a song for hopeless romantics everywhere.
3. “Floated By” – Peter Cat Recording Co.
The five guys behind PCRC are from New Delhi, India but they have an unmistakably international sound. “Floated By” is smooth and deep, and is just what you need to listen to while sipping on a mug of hot cocoa (or a glass of single malt).
4. “Blank Marquee” (feat. G-Eazy) – Yuna
Blank Marquee’s place on the playlist is solely to help you shake off the blues and start checking things off your to-do list. Whether it’s getting to your spin class or wading through rush-hour traffic, this bassline will keep your spirits up.
5. “Sex Education” (feat. K. Forest) – THEMXXNLIGHT
Recently featured on Wiz Khalifa’s “Rolling Papers 2,” R&B twins Luv and Kush Chandani deliver the goods in this late-night tune. It’s a great song to listen to while winding down, even though the title might suggest otherwise.
6. “Tints” (feat. Kendrick Lamar) – Anderson .Paak
California rapper .Paak’s signature bass-rich sound is best listened to loud. Dancing along is recommended, especially if the skies are getting a bit dark and dreary. It’s love at first sound.
7. “Best Part” (feat. Daniel Caesar) – H.E.R.
Gabriella Wilson, better known as H.E.R. slows down time in this duet with Daniel Caesar. It’s perfectly melancholic, ideal for a few minutes of contemplation.
