We know that you guys are spread out all over the country, but we just wanted to give some of you a few fun ideas for the weekend!
The Center for Asian Pacific American Students and student organizers at the Claremont Colleges are hosting One Beat for Japan, a relief benefit showcase. The outdoor event will feature local talent, including America’s Best Dance Crew’s Beat Freaks and Paul Dateh, to raise money for the disaster relief. The showcase is TONIGHT (Thursday, April 14th) at Pitzer College. The event is open to the public, with a suggested minimum donation of $5. Check out more information here.
Toebang in Koreatown, Los Angeles, is hosting a “Seng-mak Day” today (Thursday, April 14th)! All bottles of Seng makgeolli, a type of rice wine (which is apparently healthy for you!), will be only $5.99!
In addition to today’s special, you can also take advantage of the Happy Hour Special, from 5pm-8pm, which gives you 50 percent off food. The staff checked the place out yesterday and we all loved the cheese corn and the cheese ddukbokki (what can we say – we like cheese), and it was a great place to watch the game – not enough people to make you feel claustrophobic, but enough of a crowd to reassure you you’re in the right place.
The Center for Pacific Asian Family is hosting two events this month, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The first event is a FREE verbal and physical self-defense workshop at USC’s El Centro Chicano Lecture Hall, this Friday, April 15th, from 2pm to 4:30pm.The next event, language interpretation training for work with domestic violence and sexual assault victims isn’t until next week, April 23, but is definitely something worth checking out! Just in case you didn’t already know – Kollaboration Boston is putting on its FIRST SHOW EVER this Saturday, April 16! Just a few states down from Boston, the New York City Asian American Student Conference is holding its 5th gathering! The conference is dedicated to promoting awareness of Asian Pacific American issues and history among youth – this year’s theme “eMerging Profiles.” Panelists will discuss how new media has been a catalyst to many social and political movements today.
