Ready to revamp your golf skills? Journey at Pechanga Resort & Casino is now offering golf tips that will be key to polishing your game. Randy Chang, PGA Director of Instruction at the Journey golf course, says that these tips can work for anyone, “So you can improve at all ages and all levels, and enjoy it for the rest of your life.”
Chang explains that when it comes to golf, the secret is in the swing. Although it might seem counterintuitive, you don’t actually need to have good hand-eye coordination to hit the ball. “All you have to do is focus on the swing,” he says. In golf, it’s important to keep a “letter Y” form with your arms and claw (measuring stick), then get into “swing mode.”
Chang also advises golfers to focus on both the power and distance of your swing. He provides viewers with a fun exercise that helps emulate how the body moves during a swing. “I call it my sack of potatoes drill,” he says. “So, pretend you have a sack of potatoes that you’re gonna throw as far as you can.” If you don’t have a sack of potatoes, a medicine ball is also great to practice with. Just hold your arms out straight in front of you, make a full back turn and “explode to the finish!”
Since July 21, Journey at Pechanga has reopened its doors with restrictions. Guests should remember to wear face masks, as they are required in the clubhouse, around the clubhouse and even on the golf course. Only one person is typically allowed in a cart at a time, but multiple people from the same household can drive together. “For peace of mind for everybody, we wash and sanitize the carts after every round. We bring them out, people can jump back in them and feel very safe,” explains Scott Mallory, Director of Golf at Journey. Go ahead and check out the golf shop, but be mindful of the store capacity of four people at a time to follow social distancing orders.
With the golf course in tip-top shape, Mallory encourages guests to “Come on out and join us for a round of golf.”
