Cable channel TBS ordered a pilot for a half-hour sitcom starring comedian Steve Byrne, according to news reports.
“Sullivan and Son” will be set in a working-class bar in Pittsburgh and will also be written by Byrne, who grew up in Pittsburgh, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Mr. Byrne plays Steve Sullivan, son of the current owner of the bar and grandson of its founder. Steve has an Irish-American father and a Korean-American mother who did not expect him to leave his job as a corporate attorney in New York to return to Pittsburgh to run the bar.
The pilot is being produced by actor Vince Vaughn (“Swingers”) and Peter Billingsley (“A Christmas Story”) and the showrunner will be Rob Long, a former writer for “Cheers.” Byrne, who is Irish and Korean, was one of three featured comics in the 2008 incarnation of “Vince Vaughn’s Comedy Roadshow.”
TBS will decide on whether or not to green light the series based on the pilot.
