One big question after the Marvel Studios panel at this past weekend’s San Diego Comic Con has been answered. “Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige introduced fans to a new slate of movies that will inaugurate the new phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Movies from Phases 5 and 6—which will usher in The Multiverse Saga—were revealed this past Saturday. With the Studio’s Phase 4: The Infinity Saga to close out with “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on Nov. 11, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” will kick off Phase 5 and introduce the supervillain Kang the Conqueror next February. “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” will feature Kang as antagonist and is scheduled to be released in May of 2025, with another Avengers movie to release six months later: “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
Prior to being affiliated with any Marvel movie, NAACP Image Award nominee Destin Daniel Cretton directed films like “Short Term 12” (2013), “The Glass Castle” (2017) and “Just Mercy” (2019). With his directorial debut for the MCU grossing $432 million worldwide, Cretton will be looking to create the same success with “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
