World's First Robot Theme Park To Open In Korea

The world’s first robot-themed amusement park is set to open in South Korea in 2013, according to news reports.

Robot Land will feature “famous science fiction cyborgs and motion picture androids” and will be located in Incheon, about an hour’s drive west of Seoul. The theme park will have 11 rides and a variety of attractions and shows.

With an estimated 2.8 million people expected to visit each year, the $600 million theme park will be divided into four lands: Robot Kingdom, Robotopia, Kidbot Village, Fun City. Almost everything in the park will be robot-themed, including the restaurants and water park. Some of the theme park’s main attractions will include a roller coaster that seems to dive underwater, an aquarium with robot fish, and a robot boxing arena.

According to the Los Angeles Times:

A 365-foot-tall Taekwon V tower, based on the robot from a beloved 1976 South Korean animated film, would serve as the park’s central icon with an observation deck at the top and a dark ride themed to the automaton hero at the base.

Park operators plan to work with a number of intellectual property holders (20th Century Fox, Warner Bros.) and amusement park operators (Legoland, Disney) to provide themes for Robot Land’s rides and attractions.

Plans for the theme park include featuring movie sets from “I, Robot,” “Minority Report” and the “Matrix” trilogy. Robot Land’s visitors will also be able to view exhibits based on some other well-known robot films including “Transformers” and “Star Wars.”
