“You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle.” You put “Warrior” on Netflix, and hopefully it becomes a hit.
After moving networks three times in as many years, the Bruce Lee-inspired martial arts drama found its latest home on Netflix today, debuting all three seasons to a new global audience.
Created by Jonathan Tropper and executive produced by Lee’s daughter Shannon, “Warrior” follows martial arts savant Ah Sahm, played by Andrew Koji, as he emigrates from China to San Francisco in the late 19th century. Stepping into the heart of the city’s infamous Tong Wars, Sahm quickly finds himself at the center of the Chinatown conflicts — never far from the threats of kung fu and organized crime. Alongside Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan, Kieran Bew, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Langley Kirkwood, Joe Taslim, Perry Yung, Chen Tang and Miranda Raison also star.
Premiering on Cinemax in 2019 and moving to Max in 2021, the show previously failed to be renewed under Warner Bros. Discovery. However, Netflix could potentially greenlight a fourth season pending the show’s performance on the platform, Deadline reports.
“Obviously, on a selfish level, we want people to watch our show — to enjoy it, binge it, all that good stuff,” Tobin said. “But on another level, we’re just so happy that finally, this show that’s been in the making for over fifty years — that’s survived the death of Bruce Lee, decades’ worth of obscurity, two cancellations and three networks — [will have] a wider audience.”
Prior to the show’s move, the “Warrior” cast sat down with Character Media for a round of rapid-fire questions. Watch the full video below.
