With her newest music video, Laufey is proving why she’s a “Goddess.”
This morning, April 11, artist Laufey’s music video for her popular single, “Goddess” released on YouTube. Toeing the line between a short film and a music video, the project is directed by “Past Lives”’ Celine Song and features Heartstopper’s Will Gao alongside Laufey in her first acting role. “Goddess” is Song’s first music video and was shot on 35mm film.
Fans first got a taste of “Goddess” on the singer’s The Bewitched Tour where she debuted the song, keeping it on the setlist through the rest of her tour stops. Afterward, “Goddess” was announced as a single, and is now featured alongside four new songs on the deluxe edition of her 2023 Grammy-winning album, “Bewitched.”
Speaking to Variety, Laufey initially found Gao through his band, Wasia Project, which he formed with his sister, Olivia Hardy. Starting April, Wasia Project will open for Laufey’s Bewitched: The Goddess Tour on her U.S. leg. When it came to finding someone to act opposite her in “Goddess,” Laufey knew she wanted an actor who shared her Asian background. In addition to being great friends, Gao and Laufey are both half-Chinese, a fact that Laufey says they bonded over.
Next for Laufey is a sold-out stint at the Hollywood Bowl, where she will perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for a night of jazz. For now, check out the “Goddess” music video, below.
