Leslie Caldwell, assistant attorney general for the U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division, named Sung-Hee Suh as the new deputy assistant attorney general to oversee the appellate, capital case and fraud sections, the department announced Monday.

A partner at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, Suh is Caldwell’s first high-level appointment. She spent 15 years at Schulte, where she was a partner in the litigation, financial institutions, securities enforcement and white collar crime. She also worked at the Eastern District of New York U.S. Attorney’s office, prosecuting more than 60 members and associates of organized crime families, including the boss of the Gambino family, prior to joining Schulte.

“Sung-Hee Suh is an exceptional attorney with a depth of experience across the spectrum of the department’s practice areas, from white collar to violent crime,” Caldwell said in a statement. “The Criminal Division continues to attract extraordinary talent both from within government and from the private sector. I am confident that Sung-Hee will be an excellent addition to the criminal division.”

Suh received her law degree from Harvard and clerked for U.S. District Judge Robert L. Carter in Manhattan in the early 1990s.
