A Unique Gift for Your Asian American Literary Friend

Wouldn’t it be cool to get a personalized, handwritten postcard written by your favorite Asian American author? The Common — a literary journal based out of Amherst College that publishes stories, poems, essays, and dispatches with “modern sense of place” — is hosting a fun India-themed event tonight in New York called “The Common in the City: Mumbai,” featuring award-winning writer Suketu Metha (Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found) in conversation with Parul Sehgal, an editor at the New York Times Book Review.

Thursday, May 14, 7-9pm
Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute

One of the unique activities tonight is the Postcard Auction, where you can bid to get a famous author to write you or a friend a personalized note!

But even if you cannot attend, you still have a chance to win. Online bids are already closed, but now you can see what the highest bidder has offered, and you have one last chance to try and authorize a final, high bid to take it all home.

There are over 30 authors, and here are the Asian American ones:

Alexander Chee
Vijay Seshadri
Akhil Sharma
Amitava Kumar
Mira Jacob
Pico Iyer

Email bid@thecommononline.org with the name of the author and your bid. For more information, go to their event page. ACT NOW and good luck!
