Keep your fingers crossed because there might be another Asian American sitcom coming to ABC. The network officially greenlit the pilot for medical comedy Dr. Ken, starring Ken Jeong.
Jeong will star and write episodes for the the multi-camera comedy. The Community star, who worked as an internist before becoming a comedian, will portray a “frustrated HMO doctor juggling medicine, marriage and parenting, and succeeding at none of them,” according to Deadline.
Writers Jared Stern and Mike Sikowitz will write and help produce the show, with the former serving as an executive producer with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox. Sikowitz will be co-exec producing alongside Jeong.
According to Deadline, the pilot was picked up when ABC purchased seven comedy pilots on Jan. 30, including Delores & Jermaine, The King of 7B, The 46 Percenters and The Brainy Bunch. ABC Studios and Sony TV have finalized a co-production deal and will be collaborating together for Jeong’s pilot.
Jeong is currently guest starring on the final season of Glee. The Korean American actor will also make his return to Community for its sixth season on Yahoo Screen on March 7.
