A 1992 L.A. Riots Documentary By John Ridley Is Coming To Theaters

“Let It Fall: Los Angeles 1982-1992,” a feature documentary about the Los Angeles riots by Oscar-winning scribe John Ridley, will be in theaters on April 21, and air on ABC News in a broadcast version on April 28.

The documentary features interviews with those involved in the 1992 chaos, including eyewitnesses, of black, Korean, white, Hispanic and Japanese descent, according to Deadline. Ridley is also working on a separate feature film about the riots, still in development.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the riots.

Ridley told Deadline that the idea for “Let It Fall” grew out of an initial plan to do a one-hour, news clip-based documentary with ABC. “ABC News had an incredible amount of news footage,” Ridley said. “In working with them and being able to shape narratives, there felt like there was a real cinematic quality in a feature-length documentary. As the project continued to evolve, people really thought that the story was very strong, as were the varying perspectives from different people.”

The project marks ABC News’ first theatrical production.

Ridley’s recent projects include Showtime’s “Guerrilla” and ABC’s “American Crime.” He is also working on another feature film, “Needle in a Timestack,” with Miramax.
