Asian Pacific American History Month is nearing, and even TikTok is getting in on the action!
Today, the social media platform announced their plans to celebrate APAHM all May long, by promoting API creators, musicians and small businesses, along with other in-house initiatives. TikTok’s 2022 API Trailblazers, selected for their efforts making waves in entertainment and culture, include platform giants like Soy Nguyen (@foodwithsoy), Drew Afualo (@drewafualo), Ashley Yi (@ashyizzle), David Ma (@davidwma) and many more. They will all be showcased in special creator spotlights and live programming under the hashtag #APIFamily during the month, so keep an eye out for them in your Discover tab.
As part of the network’s in-app programming, TikTok is also hosting an API Night Market on May 24, where API-owned small businesses will get the spotlight and participate in a Live Shopping event hosted by Yi. Viewers will be able to purchase products from various API-owned companies across all sectors, from skincare brand cocokind (@cocokindskincare) to handmade jewelry by TamTak (@itstamtak)
Other initiatives include an in-house speaker for TikTok’s API employees through the company’s employee resource group, ARISE, and a promotion of API music artists through specially curated playlists, which can be found under the #APIMusic tag.
If you somehow don’t have a TikTok account yet, make one now! APAHM is about to take over.
