Back With A Bang, G-Dragon Tops Charts With ‘Kwon Ji Yong’

G-Dragon dropped his hotly-anticipated new album “Kwon Ji Yong” Thursday, and the BIG BANG leader is sweeping the charts.

The lead single “Untitled, 2014” is sitting pretty at the No. 1 spot on Korean streaming sites Melon, Bugs, Naver Music and Genie, and, at the time of writing, is the No. 1 album on iTunes. Korea Portal reported that even before the album was officially released, it had already pre-sold more than 200,000 copies and reached double platinum status.

“Kwon Ji Yong,” which is also G-Dragon’s real name, is the idol rapper’s third solo album, with “Coup D’Etat” being his last release four years ago. Straying from the path of tradition, the album’s retail version will be sold in the form of a USB drive.

The album consists of five tracks produced by G-Dragon. “Untitled, 2014” is a slow ballad about longing for a lost love, and listeners are treated to the rapper’s soft vocals. In just eight hours, the music video already boasts over two million views and counting.

Originally, YG Entertainment teased fans about a hip-hop title track entitled “Bulls–t,” but later made the decision to replace it with “Untitled, 2014” just prior to the album’s release.

YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk recently shared a photo set on Instagram listing all the countries in which GD’s song and album are No. 1, including nations such as Philippines, Finland, Macau and Turkey.

G-Dragon, meanwhile, is also busy preparing for his upcoming world tour, Act III M.O.T.T.E., which kicks off in Seoul on June 10.
