America has been overwhelmed with news and reports of Chelsea Clinton’s marriage to Marc Mezvinksy – we’ve all seen photos of that pretty Vera Wang dress and the amazing $15,000 porta-pottys.
But an interesting fact that you may not know is that Chelsea, the famous only child of Hillary and Bill, now has ten new siblings, and one of them is Korean.
Chelsea’s new mother-in-law, Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, was the first single woman in the United States to adopt a foreign child, a Korean girl. (The first single man to adopt a Korean child was Dr. Arthur Schneider, who inspired the Han-Schneider Foundation.)
“The first organization willing to talk to me was HOLT, an agency based in Virginia that specialized in adopting Korean babies. When I went to meet with the people there for the story, I fell in love with the little girl who became my first child. She was six years old at the time and living in Korea. Because I was single, I had to bring her into the country with a student visa—she was the youngest person to be brought into the U.S. with a student visa ever at the time,” Marjorie told UniversityChic.com in 2007.
Marjorie also adopted three Vietnamese boys, was a major force in helping change adoption and immigration practices in 1976 and is the author of They Came to Stay, a book relating her experiences as an adoptive parent.

Basically, Chelsea’s new mother-in-law is an old-school Angelina Jolie. We approve.
(And of course, congratulations to the bride and the groom.)
