Comic Strip Shows Just How Uncomfortable Asian Fetishism Makes Us Feel

“As a latecomer to dating, I don’t know a lot of the “rules”of the game,” cartoonist Connie Sun explains in her comic strip Flora, Fauna, Asian Fetish. “But I know when the rules are whack.”

This statement makes perfect sense once you find out that Sun’s comic strip is all about the uncomfortable experience of being an Asian woman interacting with someone who has an Asian fetish. Of course, Asian fetishism is hardly a new phenomenon. In fact, because we’ve come across such an alarming amount of men who stereotype Asian women, we’ve created a warning list of the worst ways to pick up Asian women. This includes (but is not limited to) saying Asian women are the best to date because we’ll cook and clean for you. Ew.

Despite our numerous attempts at explaining how uncomfortable this makes us, Asian fetishism continues. In her comic strip Flora, Fauna, Asian Fetish, which was recently featured in McSweeny’s, Sun perfectly captures this rather annoying experience that many of us are familiar with.

Clearly, Sun has a knack for helping us find humor in some of our rather stressful moments. Like what you see? Be sure to check out Sun’s official website and her Twitter. We certainly can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
