The search is on for Aladdin and Jasmine — Disney’s making a live-action “Aladdin,” and it’s put out an open casting call for young potential Middle Eastern stars.
The film, based on Disney’s animated classic, has already found a director in Guy Ritchie and will be a musical much like the recently released “Beauty and the Beast.”
Actors should be 18 to 25 years old and must know how to sing. Dancing experience “is a plus,” reads the call.
Shooting will begin this summer, with rehearsals kicking off next month. According to the Hollywood Reporter, John August (“Big Fish”) wrote the adaptation.
“Aladdin” tells the story of a street-smart thief who, against all odds, proves himself against an evil sorcerer and finds love in a princess. The film, with a voice cast led by Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, Jonathan Freeman and Linda Larkin, was a commercial and critical success, topping the revenue list of 1992.
Last year, Disney kicked off a similar search for Asian actors for its live-action adaptation of “Mulan,” which is slated for a 2018 release.
