Director Lulu Wang and her producing partner Dani Melia have created their own production company, Local Time.
Following the critical success of “The Farewell” (2019), which Wang directed and Melia produced, the two are expanding their reach with Local Time. According to a Jan. 25 Deadline article, the company will champion emerging storytellers.
Wang and Melia also revealed they’ve struck a first-look deal with Amazon Studios, headed by Jennifer Salke, to executive produce television series. Currently, Wang is a producer on Amazon’s forthcoming “Expats” series, based on the 2016 novel “The Expatriates” by Janice Y.K. Lee. “It is a special privilege to work with Lulu and Dani, and we share their commitment to elevating new voices and storytellers,” Salke told Deadline.
Wang likewise shared her excitement about the partnership. “We’re thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Amazon,” she said. “Jen Salke and her team have been remarkable partners on ‘Expats’ and we look forward to many more artist-driven collaborations.”
