The birds are chirping, the bees are buzzing and spring has finally arrived. Romance certainly seems to be in the air as the winter days pass—it’s even a scientific fact that love’s on most people’s minds during this time of year. Well, not for everyone. Determined tea shop-owner Lia refuses to make time for romance, even if she’s given a prophecy about her soulmate.
The upcoming rom-com “Five Blind Dates” is set to follow this premise. Lia must navigate through the five blind dates her family has chosen for her and save the tea shop willed to her by her grandmother. Written by influencer and actor Shuang Hu (“Ronny Chieng: International Student”) and actor and comedian Nathan Ramos-Park (“As We Babble On”), the film will be the first Australian original produced by Amazon Studios. The story will also explore Chinese culture and family dynamics alongside Lia’s journey towards love.
Directed by “Barons”’ Shawn Seet, “Five Blind Dates” will star Hu as Lia alongside an ensemble cast, to be announced at a later date. Production will begin next month, with filming in the cities of Townsville and Sydney.
