I am KoreAm and proud because being Korean American, I know about two cultures together, and with my job I can combine two style worlds together for anybody that comes to see me. Being KoreAm, another thing is I can teach my child about two cultures from the start and she’ll have a head start in opening minds to other cultures too! Hopefully leading the way to more open minds!
What is one goal you would like to accomplish during your lifetime?
To be able to style hair or makeup for a well-known magazine like Vogue or an ad campaign.
Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours.
I tend to pout my lips or push my eyebrows together when I’m cutting hair, sometimes my clients catch me doing it and tell me I must be concentrating really hard. Hahaha, but I never notice myself doing it.
If you had to describe yourself using three words, they would be…
Artist, honest, talkative.
If you could be anybody besides yourself for a day, you would be…
CL from 2NE1.
What are your pet peeves or interesting thing about you that you dislike?
My eyes aren’t the same size. Everyone’s eyes are not exactly the same but mine are quite different in size. I have one double eye lid, and my other eye doesn’t and when I do my makeup it takes some more time and more eyeliner to make my eyes look even. With no make up you can tell more, so I ALWAYS have to have some eye makeup on before I go out.
Name one of your favorite things about someone in your family.
Hard worker. My mother is a workaholic and I think I get that trait from her also. Over 26 years in America, living in Alaska.. she’s been working hard since she immigrated from South Korea. Theres a lot of things to learn from a single mother who came across the world to provide a better life for her children.
Do you have any phobias?
Snakes? Slithery, slimy snakes. EEEEEEEEEk. I don’t even like thinking of them. Gives me the shivers. Other than that… not really.
What do you think the greatest invention in your lifetime is and why?
Enfamil Ready to Feed Formula, for babies. Since I am now a mother of a four-month-old, this stuff is the best. No need for mixing, just shake and feed. It’s really convenient.
Do you have any words that you live by?
Love what you do, Do what you love.
“아티스트 한테 현실/상식이 들어가는 순간 벽에 부디쳐 끝난다.”
– 울랄라 세션 임윤택
Translation:
“When an artist starts to accept reality and common sense they are stuck in a rut.” – Ulala Session’s Yoon-taek Lim.
So when working I always try to not think of the obvious but to look out for more creative and new styles.
How would you describe your style in clothing?
Casual/Trendy
Cha working KoreAm’s January 2014 cover shoot with Tiger JK and Yoon Mi-rae.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
As a well known hair/makeup artist working with models and celebs for covers or magazines and even maybe movies or shows. Maybe even working as a platform artist for a hair product line.
What has given you the most pleasure in the last year?
My husband Yoseb and my daughter Lia.
What food do you absolutely HATE?
I don’t really have a food I HATE.. I don’t like to drink milk?
What quality do you appreciate most in a friend?
Understanding. Someone who’s there to talk to when you need someone. Doesn’t have to be there all the time, but whenever you call. Someone who will listen to when you need to vent. And vice-versa.
How do you show your love for others?
I tell them.
What is one quality you admire most in others?
Kindness, anyone that knows how to give and know that they don’t need to receive back–I think is beautiful. To give to someone that needs more than I and being able to share without any say is admirable. Whether it’s a verbal saying or giving a smile.
What is your favorite outfit to wear?
All black. Either leggings or shorts and a casual crew neck pullover sweater and some Nike wedge sneakers is something I wear often these days.
