Riding the traction from his critical success “Gook,” Justin Chon is slated to direct a film for the production studio MACRO.
MACRO is the production company behind major films such as “Mudbound” starring Carey Mulligan and the upcoming “Roman J. Israel, Esq.” starring Denzel Washington. According to Deadline, most of the details are being kept under wraps, including the title and synopsis of Chon’s project.
Chon recently garnered attention for his independent film “Gook,” which won the Next Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and also earned him a nomination as a Director to Watch by the Film Independent Spirit Awards. The film follows two Korean American brothers and an African American girl as they defend the brothers’ shoe store on the first day of the 1992 Los Angeles riots.
Chon’s new project with MACRO is set to begin production in 2018.
