K-pop Playlist of the Week: Red Velvet, KARD & Pentagon

These cold winter days make for the perfect atmosphere for a bit of darkness, even when it comes to the usually sunny K-pop. Find out which old and new tracks we’re listening to this week:

“Peek-A-Boo” – Red Velvet

Sidestepping their usual bubblegum pop routine, Red Velvet goes slightly dark in “Peek-A-Boo,” an electronic pop song that infuses the group with a bit of unpredictability.

“You In Me” – KARD

Like Red Velvet, KARD infuses their usual tropical house fare with a darker, moodier vibe befitting of the season, and the result is an emotive piece that flips listeners’ expectations while remaining true to their sound.

“Mic Drop” – BTS (Steve Aoki Remix)

BTS is riding the Western media hype train, and the influence flows both ways. Steve Aoki’s remix of “Mic Drop” infuses the track with a heightened sense of energy that mirrors the group’s sudden burst of fame.

“Runaway” – Pentagon

Pentagon delivers their signature gorgeous vocals and anthemic chorus in “Runaway,” which blends hip-hop with emotive synth for a splash of versatility in their discography.

“Shower” – INFINITE

One would be hard-pressed to find a group with teamwork as seamless as that of veteran group Infinite. “Shower” combines the poppy electronic synth sound that the group is known for with powerful vocals that ensure that there is never a dull moment in this song.
