K-pop Playlist Of The Week: Red Velvet, One & Zico

This K-pop summer is proving to be another hot one! Check out which summer tunes we’re listening to — as well as some of our old favorites!

“Red Flavor” – Red Velvet

Ask any K-pop fan how they felt about Red Velvet’s “Rookie,” and you’re sure to get answers anywhere between “I hated it from the first second” to “it grew on me after a while.” But audiences are way less divided in opinion over “Red Flavor.” Revisiting the tropical concept from their “Happiness” days, Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor” is a refreshing track that’s perfect for the summer season. We love how natural and untouched the girls’ vocals sound in this song!

“Heyahe” – One

YG Entertainment really got the K-pop fan community hyped when word hit that One was going to make his solo debut. Rapper One got a lot of heat back in 2015 when he was on seasons 4 and 5 of “Show Me the Money.” That we finally get his debut with “Heyahe” makes this as much an emotional catharsis as a musical one.

“Sign” – GOT7

We love that the boys of GOT7 are being given more creative freedom when it comes to producing their own music. Most of the B-side tracks off their latest album are the boys’ own work, including “Sign.” This sultry and emotional ballad was written by lead vocalist Youngjae, who also delivers a goosebump-inducing bridge at the 2:20 mark.

“Artist” – Zico

Double single track releases seem to be the trend nowadays. Zico just recently dropped a fun, silly music video to accompany “Artist” alongside a darker rap track featuring G-Soul called “ANTI.” The lyrics to “Artist” are dedicated to those are tired of their mundane lives and calls people to be artists who make the dreary seem beautiful — a nice message to those of us sitting in front of computers all day.

“View” – SHINee

When it comes to tropical-themed summer comebacks, we just can’t let go of SHINee’s “View.” All it takes is one listen to get this popping Euro-dance, tropical house track stuck in your head. It’s fresh no matter how many times you play it.
