Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico, one of the most anticipated additions to the Star Wars universe, is still a bit of a mystery, but we do have a little more information on her character through a new photo shared by Entertainment Weekly.
Noted as having a pivotal (maybe even “lead”) role in the upcoming “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Rose is a maintenance worker in the Resistance who fights alongside Resistance hero Finn, played by John Boyega.
In the photo, Rose and Finn are seen piloting their ship to the casino planet Canto Bight (comparable to Monaco). Rose is wearing a crescent-shaped necklace that is said to be tied to her backstory.
Tran teased to EW in October: “[Rose] is going to be such a cool character because she’s someone who isn’t a model. She’s not a superhero. She’s just kind of an everyday person, and that’s something special about her. She’s someone who is able to face her fears in the face of adversity even though she kind of is a background player in the Resistance.”
She’s joined in the cast by Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro. “The Last Jedi” will also mark the last film appearance by the late Carrie Fisher.
According to the official synopsis, the film will follow a continuation of the Skywalker saga as “the heroes of ‘The Force Awakens’ join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.”
More is to be unveiled soon, and we can’t wait to see what’s to come of Tran and her “Star Wars” journey. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” releases Dec. 15, 2017.
