Korean American Teacher Charged With Sexual Assault On Student

A Pennsylvania Korean American man was charged last week by police with multiple counts of sexual assault on a 15-year-old student from Korea who was a student at the cram school where he taught, according to The Morning Call.

Police say Richard Kim, 33, forced oral sex on a female student at the ACE Academy, a foreign exchange program in eastern Pennsylvania that hosts students from Korea and is owned and operated by Kim’s parents.

Kim was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors, indecent assault and indecent assault of a girl under the age of 16.

Police allege that Kim took advantage of the girl but Kim’s attorney said the incident never happened. The girl admitted to police she was “in love” with Kim, according to authorities.

Kim’s attorney Charles Gordon said the girl’s claims are nothing more than a teenager’s lashing out over an unrequited love but the police think Kim took advantage of the girl.

“He’s been there for many years,” Gordon told the Morning Call. “This is the first hint of a complaint or a problem. The school has an outstanding reputation.”

According to court documents, Kim first initiated contact with the 15-year-old last November, kissing her, and then groping her later that month and at least 15 other times in the following months. Kim also forced oral sex three times, the girl told police.

The girl told a friend and her mother, who was still in Korea, about the incidents. In February, the 15-year-old told Kim’s parents of their son’s overtures.
