Korean American Woman Jumps To Death In Manhattan

A 29-year-old woman died Wednesday after jumping from the 18th floor of a luxury condo in New York City’s upper East Side, according to the New York Daily News.

The death of Suyeon Kim, a resident of Flushing, Queens, was ruled a suicide by police.

“I heard a big thump – real loud,” said Juan Gonzalez, a doorman who was stationed across the street. “I thought it was an air conditioner falling. It was that loud.”

He rushed outside to see people standing on the street, pointing up at the beige brick building, where two-bedroom units sell for $1 million. Gonzalez called a tenant in his building and asked her to look out the window and report what was happening. She told him, “I see the body of a young girl.”

The doorman said that minutes later he saw the building super and a distraught man appear in the windows next to the body.

“His hand was on his forehead like he couldn’t believe it,” Gonzalez said of the unidentified man. “That told me right there … it had to be somebody he loved.”

The tabloid newspaper also published a grisly photograph of Kim’s body covered in a sheet with her legs sticking out.

The New York Post reported that the unidentified man came down after Kim’s fatal plunge and “tried to help her,” according to the building’s doorman.

“He was hysterical and crying,” he said. “He was wearing a suit like he was getting ready for work. I’m sick to my stomach.”
