After the wild success of its anime, light novels and live-action films, Death Note has found new life in its latest adaptation: a musical.

While Japanese entertainment agency HoriPo is premiering the Japanese production of the Death Note musical today, South Korean performance company C-Jes Culture will be staging its own production with a different cast this upcoming summer, according to the Korea Herald.

Based on a psychological thriller manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows Light Yagami, a genius high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that grants the user the power to kill anyone whose name and face he/she knows. The series centers on the cat-and-mouse chase between Light, who attempts to exterminate all the criminals in the world by wielding the power of notebook, and the eccentric but brilliant private detective L.

In addition, Jung Sun-ah will star as Light’s girlfriend Misa while Park Hye-na and Kang Hong-suk will portray death gods Rem and Ryuk, respectively.

The musical score was created by composer Frank Wildhorn of Jekyll and Hyde. Jack Murphy of The Count of Monte Cristo wrote the lyrics and Ivan Menchell of Bonnie and Clyde penned the musical’s script.
