Korean Man at Grand Canyon Arrested For Slapping His Teenage Son

A Korean man vacationing with his family at the Grand Canyon in Arizona was arrested last week on assault charges after slapping his 15-year-old son, according to the Korea Times.

A park ranger on duty was observing an argument between the man, surnamed Choi, and his son and saw Choi slap him three times on the cheek.

Choi, 45, told the ranger that his son was disobeying him and Choi’s wife confirmed that corporal punishment was normal in their family.

Regardless, Choi was arrested. No other details were available.

The Korea Times said some Korean parents often ignore or are unaware of U.S. laws against corporal punishment, which could land them in jail and result in losing custody of their child.
