Writer, actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani reacted to “The Big Sick”’s Golden Globe snub on Twitter. Or did he?
The Golden Globes revealed their list of nominees on Dec. 11, but while many films, television programs and performances made the cut, Nanjiani’s “The Big Sick” was noticeably left out. On Twitter, Nanjiani reacted to the snub by pretending to be Steven Spielberg promoting the film:
Hey gang. This is Steven Spielberg tweeting from Kumail’s phone. My fave movie this yr was The Big Sick. It’s avail on Amazon Prime & iTunes & all that. Great movie to watch w the fam. I watched it w my family (the Spielbergs) & we all loved it. Handing phone back to Kumail now.

When Deadline reported on the tweet, Nanjiani/Spielberg replied:
Hey @DEADLINE, Steven Spielberg tweeted that! I’ll give the phone back to him.
This is Steven (Spielberg.) I tweeted that. I directed Jaws, ET, BFG. See? I can name 3 of my films. It has to be me. Lincoln. That’s 4. That’s enough proof for you to retract.https://t.co/Ck2BQMgu9j— Kumail Nanjiani (@kumailn) December 11, 2017
The rom-com “The Big Sick” is based on the true story of how Nanjiani met and fell in love with his wife, Emily Gordon, who also co-wrote the script. The couple’s love story is complicated by Nanjiani’s family’s disapproval and Emily’s mysterious coma. Critics lauded the heartfelt comedy when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it is also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.
The film is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime.
