Body Language
Hangeul + modern dance.

How does one convey the beauty of the written Korean language through the human body?
These pictures answer that question. South Korea’s Milmul (meaning “rising tide”) Dance Company, led by award-winning artistic director Lee Sook Jae, performed “Hangeul Dance Expressed Through Heaven, Earth and Human,” at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 5, in an innovative display of modern dance.

The theme of “Hangeul” represents an ongoing exploration for Lee and her company, renowned for their penchant for creativity and experimentation.
In their latest piece, dancers use the elegance of their bodies to explore the idea that everything in the universe is directed by the harmony of the polar forces of yin (earth) and yang (heaven), and humans serve as the mediator of the two.
In the above photo composite, can you tell what the dancers are spelling with their bodies?
