Masala: Kimiko Glenn Makes A Splash In ‘Baby Shark’s Big Show!’

Get ready to get the most viewed video in YouTube history stuck in your head (again) because Baby Shark is swimming over to Nickelodeon in “Baby Shark’s Big Show!”

The new animated series is based on the popular music video by Pinkfong, a South Korean educational company, that follows the adventures of Baby Shark, his family and friends. “Orange Is the New Black” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” actress Kimiko Glenn voices Baby Shark and uses her joyous demeanor and Broadway-tested singing chops to bring the beloved character to life.

Glenn was familiar with the original video and wasn’t surprised when the project was announced. “This came across my desk and I was like ‘Of course they’d make a series, how wonderful!’” she recalled.

To hone in on the childlike wonder of Baby Shark, Glenn thought back to her days in children’s theater, recalling when a kid in the audience exclaimed “Awesome!” “I thought that was the most earnest [and] sweet thing I’ve ever heard. The audience erupted in laughter and it stuck with me ever since,” Glenn expressed. “And so I really brought whoever that kid was into it and also my inner child.”
