Jeong Hyeonsoo, a 19-year-old South Korean volunteer who went missing in Albuquerque, was found at a Pine View, Arizona hospital on Tuesday, according to an Albuquerque police spokesman.
Jeong first came to the U.S. as a volunteer with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) and was last seen Sept. 7 at his sponsor’s home. Joshua Park, the director of the IYF, said the teen left in the middle of bible study and never returned, leaving all of his belongings behind.
According to KOB-TV, detectives said the Albuquerque police stopped Jeong near a freeway intersection at 2 a.m. on Sept. 8 before he was reported missing. Jeong told the officer at the time that he was heading to Arizona. Four days later, a witness tipped off the police that they had seen the teen in the western New Mexico city of Gallup.
Jeong was finally located on Sept. 16 after Director Park received a call from a nurse who worked at the hospital where Jeong was being treated.
It is unclear how the young South Korean man arrived in Arizona, especially since he speaks very little English. Police officials added that they have no information regarding Jeong’s medical condition at this time.
