B.J. Penn has taken his last trip into the octagon.
The former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion is retiring from mixed martial arts, confirming his decision to reporters after losing to Frankie Edgar in the season finale of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
“This is the end,” he said in a press conference.
Even though he was the clear underdog, Penn said he stepped back into the octagon for a final time because he “needed some closure.”
The native Hawaiian has had a Hall of Fame career that spans more than 13 years. KoreAm profiled the fighter in a cover story in 2008.
