‘My Sassy Girl 2’ to Begin Filming with Cha Tae-hyun, f(x)’s Victoria

The sequel to My Sassy Girl, the widely-popular 2001 South Korean romantic comedy, is gearing up for filming. But can the happen without the original actress who brought the “sassy girl” to life?

Actor Cha Tae-hyun, who starred opposite Jun Ji Hyun as the awkward and oftentimes adorably pathetic Gyeon-woo in the first movie, confirmed the news of the sequel and casting decision earlier today. Instead of Jun, he will have a new co-starlet: Victoria from the K-pop girl group f(x).

Cha made the announcement in an interview before the opening of his latest movie, Slow Video. He said he was prepared to take any criticism about the decision to not have Jun in the upcoming sequel.

Cha also added that he did not originally plan on appearing in a sequel, as he had no idea there was going to be one. However, with the original producer, ShinCine, and director Kwak Jae-yong attached, Cha said he was more comfortable to take on the role.

The decision to cast Victoria has inspired a debate among netizens on whether she will fit with Cha’s character and be able to fill the big shoes Jun left behind.

If you haven’t seen My Sassy Girl, we highly recommend that you do so. Just make sure it isn’t the American remake.
