NBC orders pilot about mixed-race family from ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ showrunners

It seems the success of “Fresh Off The Boat” is resonating with the folks at NBC – the network has committed to a pilot for a single-camera comedy series about a mixed-race family by the show’s executive producers Nahnatchka Khan and Kourtney Kang, as well as actor-director Fred Savage.

The untitled show is based on Kang’s life and tells the story of a girl aspiring to become a Laker Girl while dealing with race and gender in the Philadelphia suburbs, according to Deadline.com.

The show will be executive produced by Khan (“Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23”), Kang (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Savage, and was sold through Fierce Baby, Khan’s production company.

“Fresh Off The Boat,” which airs on ABC, will return for a third season in October.
