This May marks the five year anniversary of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit debut album SOUR and Rodrigo took to Instagram to announce that she will be rolling out reimagined covers. The first cover to come out is a David Byrne reworking of “Driver’s License.”
SOUR made Billboard history by being the first debut album to have two number one debuts on their Hot 100 list: “Driver’s License” and “Deja Vu.” Among her other accolades, Rodrigo won three Grammies for Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best New Artist. The angsty, unapologetically honest pop album with multi sub genre rock influences quickly became a voice for Gen Z.

This isn’t the first time Rodrigo and Byrne have collaborated together. At the 2025 Governor’s Ball in New York, Rodrigo brought out Byrne as a surprise guest during her set for a choreographed performance of the 1983 Talking Head’s hit “Burning Down the House.” In addition to the release of the single to stream, Rodrigo also released a 7 inch vinyl preorder that includes the David Byrne cover along with their Governor’s Ball performance. She hasn’t teased the upcoming artists she’ll be collaborating with yet, but we can only expect other rock legends and influences that Rodrigo is always known for honoring.
