Riz Ahmed is in talks with Netflix to play the titular Prince of Denmark in a contemporary reimagining of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”
According to Deadline, Netflix’s film adaptation is being written by Mike Lesslie, who also penned the script for “Assassin’s Creed” and the Michael Fassbender-starring “Macbeth.” This reincarnation of “Hamlet” will be set in modern-day London and will explore topics such as familial duty, honor and dynastic corruption.
Ahmed became the first South Asian man to win an Emmy for acting earlier this year for his work on HBO’s “The Night After,” and he previously starred on “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Nightcrawler.”
