Chaganty will once again collaborate with his “Searching” writing partner Sev Ohanian to develop the film, which is described as a thriller about a homeschooled teenager who begins to suspect her mother of keeping a dark secret. According to Variety, Lionsgate acquired rights to the screenplay from the pair yesterday.
“Searching” stars John Cho as David Kim, a father who takes his desperate investigation to the internet when his teenage daughter Margot (Michelle La) goes missing. The film was shot almost entirely on laptop cameras and smartphones. “Searching” won several awards at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, including the NEXT Audience Award.
“Searching” is set to release nationwide on Aug. 3.
