Season Six Of ‘The Mindy Project’ Will Be Its Last

Prepare to say goodbye to “The Mindy Project.”

The show, which just wrapped up its fifth season on Hulu, will run its final episode at the close of the next season, which will air in September, according to the streaming service.

Created by and starring Mindy Kaling, “Mindy” has aired as a Hulu original series since 2015, after it was picked up by the streaming service following its cancellation on the Fox network.

It follows Kaling as Mindy Lahiri, an ambitious OB/GYN who runs a small practice in New York City, and her eclectic band of co-workers and romantic interests.

Kaling, speaking to Entertainment Weekly following the announcement, said the decision to end the show came down to how much her character has grown over the course of the series since its start in 2012.

“We started the series when she was single, and now she’s married and has a kid and she has a stepdaughter, and it kind of just felt like [a few] more episodes was all we needed to wind this down,” Kaling said.

Craig Erwich, Hulu SVP and Head of Content, told Deadline “Mindy” is “one of [Hulu’s] most popular and beloved series over the past five years.”

The series may be ending, but our favorite doctor’s not going anywhere — the show will be syndicated on VH1 and Freeform.
