Thanks to a concerned passerby and the quick actions of local police, a Southern California girl left in a hot car was able escape without serious physical injury, despite temperatures reaching past 100 degrees inside the vehicle.

Police in Brea, in Orange County, Calif., arrested the 3-year-old’s parents, Ho Kim, 33, and Tae Kim, 35, on suspicion of felony endangerment, according to ABC-7 News. Authorities said the couple left their daughter in their black Nissan Quest this past Sunday at around 4:45 p.m., while they went inside a Brea shopping mall. The temperature outside meanwhile was about 91 degrees, with the temperature about 104 degrees inside the car, said police.

A passerby spotted the girl, who investigators believe was inside the hot van for 15 to 20 minutes, NBC’s local news station reported. Police who arrived at the scene were able to coach the girl how to open the doors and get out. She was reportedly in good condition after being examined at a local hospital, said the station.

Local media said the girl is staying with relatives, while child protective services investigates the incident. The parents were released on bail.
