“Once a rebel, always a rebel.”
The official trailer for Disney+’s “Ahsoka” just dropped, teasing a reunion that will excite “Star Wars” fans across the galaxy.
An eight-episode spin-off of “The Mandalorian,” “Ahsoka” continues the storyline of 2014’s animated series “Star Wars Rebels.” In this latest installation, the Empire has fallen, but tensions remain, and it’s up to Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) to prevent another war.
The trailer sees Ahsoka’s reunion with “Rebels” favorites Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Borzizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), as well as the astromech droid Chopper. Together, they must track down their missing confederate, Ezra (Eman Esfandi), and defeat the blue-skinned, red-eyed Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) — a notorious Empire official who does not use the Force.
Lucasfilm alum Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Skywalker, likely in a “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” flashback. Ivanna Sakhno, Diana Lee Inosanto, David Tennant and the late Ray Stevenson will also star.
Fans have long hoped that “Ahsoka” would address “Rebels”’ cliffhanger ending, and the trailer hints that they may get their wish. Packed with callbacks to the original cartoon, the two-minute teaser is generating generous buzz among long-time franchise fans.
The first two episodes of “Ahsoka” will be available on Disney+ August 23, with weekly installments to follow. Watch the full trailer below.
