You probably know Zayn Malik as the British Pakistani heartthrob who stole the hearts of teenage girls (and boys) worldwide as a member of One Direction. Although he meant well, Malik went on to unintentionally break all those hearts. Twice.
In 2013, Malik proposed to his girlfriend of two years, singer Perrie Edwards, and prompted the tears of millions who had hoped to be the future Mrs. Malik. Luckily, heartbroken teenagers eventually overlooked this. What could not be overlooked was Malik’s recent decision to leave One Direction all together.
But according to the brilliant Stephen Hawking, we must not lose hope!
I know what you’re thinking. What in the world is Stephen Hawking doing talking about One Direction? Well over the weekend, the 73-year-old theoretical physicist made an appearance at the Sydney Opera House to talk about his work as one of the world’s leading scientists. And when I say “made an appearance,” I mean he appeared via hologram. When someone submitted a question about “the cosmological effect” of Zayn Malik leaving One Direction, Hawking didn’t miss a beat.
“Finally, a question about something important,” he joked. Once the explosion of laughter finally calmed down, Hawking continued with an even more brilliant response.
“My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay attention to the study of theoretical physics because, one day, there may well be proof of multiple universes,” Hawking explained. “It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another, different universe and in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction.”
Who says brilliant scientists can’t have a sense of humor?
