Add Love to Your Recipe Book This APAHM With Subtle Asian Traits

From delicately cut pieces of fruit to ornate and Instagram-worthy bone marrow pho served at the world’s hottest restaurants, food has and continues to have a huge impact on the multiple communities in the Asian and Pacific Islander diaspora. Many acknowledge food as the “love language” for many AAPI families and individuals. So, it’s tough to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month without mentioning food.

Not to worry—Subtle Asian Traits has got that covered. Since its creation in 2018, the viral Facebook group has amassed more than 2 million members, with multiple spin-offs including Subtle Asian Baking, Subtle Curry Traits and Subtle Asian Cooking. On May 18, the group launched “Love Through Food,” a Reels series to celebrate Asian cooking. The series spotlights several recipes from a variety of Subtle Asian chefs, like Subtle Asian Baking’s founder Kat Lieu and others, who are highlighted in a Facebook blog post. All dishes have a significant meaning to the chefs’ cultures and past. The chefs featured in this series also include several contestants from “MasterChef,” like Fred Chang, Joseph Manglicmot and season 11 finalist Suu Kin.
