Shay Mitchell tackles a new role in Lifetime’s upcoming psychological thriller “You.”
The 10-episode first season premieres Sept. 9 and has already been renewed for a second season, according to Deadline.
“You” follows a bookstore owner, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), who becomes obsessed with frequent shopper Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail). He stalks her physically and through social media in order to get closer to her.
Mitchell plays Peach Salinger, Beck’s protective best friend who is concerned about Goldberg and Beck’s relationship.
The half-Filipina actress is best known for her role as Emily Fields in Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars.” In an interview with ET, she stated that Salinger is a “complete 180” from Emily.
“She is known to be not the nicest, so she is, quote un-quote, the ‘mean girl,’ but you know she does have a love for Beck, the main character, and you’ll see that. She has… a very ‘interesting’ relationship with her,” she said.
“You” is based off of the bestselling novel of the same title by Caroline Kepnes. The second season will be based on the following book in the “You” series, “Hidden Bodies.” Production is set to begin toward the end of this year.
