DMZ to DC

By Nicholas Ryu

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War. Starting July 25, the organization Nodutdol is hosting a series of events to call an end to the decades-long conflict. In Washington, D.C., an interactive art installation called “100 Bojagis For Peace” will feature 100 bojagi (traditional Korean bundles carried by refugees during the war) with audio and written recollections by Korean Americans and Canadians. The bojagi represent the millions of families who are still separated by the division of the Korean peninsula.

That evening, Deann Borshay Liem’s new documentary on adoption, In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee (United States, 2010), will screen at the Justice Center. The provocative documentary explores the ethics of international adoption, the complexities of identity, and the personal cost of living a lie.
