Zhang Ziyi has joined the “Godzilla” franchise, signing on to star in “Godzilla: King Of The Monsters,” the coming 2019 film about the giant reptilian monster.
Zhang will join a cast already comprising Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown and Bradley Whitford, among others, according to Deadline, and see direction under filmmaker Michael Dougherty.
The pic, due out March 22, 2019, is a follow-up to the 2014 MonsterVerse film by Legendary, which pulled in more than $529 million globally on a $160 million budget.
The mega-star is one of China’s biggest acting exports, with films like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “House of Flying Daggers” and “Memoirs of a Geisha” among her projects. She will next appear in “God Particle,” a Hollywood production produced by J.J. Abrams, in October.
